Overview
A global reinsurer wanted to understand how AI could support their long-term business objectives and improve operations across the organisation.
Over a three-week engagement, we worked closely with stakeholders across the business to assess current AI appetite and adoption, identify opportunities for greater impact and develop a roadmap for implementation.
The project culminated in an executive workshop at the client's Bermuda office, where we worked with senior leaders to align on priorities and next steps.
As a Consultant on the team, my role involved facilitating the discovery sessions we held with the client, synthesising the findings and conducting market research on high-value AI applications. I designed the interview and workshop approach before leading half of the functional sessions, working with representatives from the Underwriting, Operations, Pricing and Claims teams. These sessions helped us understand how the teams worked, where they were running into difficulty and how AI could improve their efficiency, analysis and decision-making.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of this project was the variety of perspectives I was exposed to. Within the space of a few days, I was discussing underwriting workflows with one team, claims processes with another and emerging AI opportunities with the C-suite. Bringing these functional details together with executive ambitions helped us assess the organisation's readiness for AI adoption and build a prioritised list of use cases.
The final week of the project also saw us travel to the client's office in Bermuda to run an Executive AI strategy workshop. This was a fantastic opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders and learn first-hand how strategic decisions are made. A particular highlight was facilitating one of the workshop breakout sessions with the CEO, Chief Actuary and Chief Legal Officer. I was quickly trusted to lead discussions, challenge client thinking and help the group prioritise opportunities based on business value, practical feasibility and implementation risk. This project is a good example of the responsibility and variety available to consultants at Oxbow Partners. Early exposure to senior stakeholders and real client-facing responsibility creates a steep learning curve, and each engagement builds on the last.
