Intern | Discover Insurance Consulting

Overview

Our eight-week summer internship programme is designed for students who are keen to learn, grow and experience consulting in practice. As an Intern, you will support the consulting team to deliver live client projects, giving you hands-on experience rather than passive shadowing. You will contribute across the project by researching topics, analysing information, developing clear outputs and presenting your findings. Working closely with Consultants and Managers, you will build core consulting skills and gradually take ownership of defined tasks. When not staffed on project work, you may also support research, proposals and pitches.

Key responsibilities

Project delivery

Complete one week of structured training in core consulting skills, tools and ways of working, including Excel, PowerPoint and working with clients
Join a live client project and get up to speed quickly, working closely with Consultants and Managers
Support one or two projects over your placement, alongside two to five Oxbow Partners colleagues
Conduct research, synthesise findings and produce clear outputs under guidance
Take ownership of defined tasks, managing them effectively and delivering to a consistently high standard
Participate in internal and client-facing discussions, presenting your analysis as part of the wider team

Business development and knowledge building

Support proposals, pitch materials and background research when not staffed on project work
Contribute to in-depth research notes and sector analysis
Turn project work into reusable knowledge assets where appropriate

Consultant

Learning the fundamentals

You'll build core consulting skills including problem structuring, data analysis and clear communication. Working in a team, you'll contribute to specific parts of a project, taking on more responsibility as you grow in confidence and capability.

Owning workstreams

You'll own a workstream, supported by your manager, and may manage a consultant for the first time. You'll likely be the main point of contact for clients in this area of the project, allowing you to develop your client management and communication skills.

Manager

Leading project delivery

You'll be responsible for delivering a project or workstream on a large engagement, supported by a team of consultants. Most of your time will be focused on structuring the work, coaching junior team members and reviewing their output. You will work closely with the senior Oxbow Partners team, discussing how best to progress the project and advise the client. You will also work directly with clients, using their feedback to sharpen your insights.

Senior Manager

Senior client leadership

This is the inflection point to senior leadership. You'll oversee one major, complex project or two smaller ones. Your job is to mentor the manager, bringing your experience to bear on project direction and problem solving. You may be an acknowledged expert in a particular subject area, allowing you to play the 'guru' role on certain projects. You will take your leadership skills to the next level and begin building your own client network.

Principal

Firm-building and project outcomes

You'll balance project leadership with business development, owning key client relationships while helping to shape the firm's thinking in your specialist areas. You'll identify new opportunities and guide teams across multiple projects, ensuring strong delivery, clear direction and sustained commercial growth.
